My Story
24 December 2017, I was involved in a traumatic motor vehicle accident, and I was declared hemiplegic. Consequently, I utilise a wheelchair to mobilise, my right arm has no function, and my speech is impaired. The accident turned my life upside down. I could no longer lecture, and my business closed down hardly two months into my four months hospital stay. This incident was an awakening experience for me. As I laid there unconscious, I awoke to a world that reawakened my consciousness to fight against injustice, exclusion and equality.
I am a passionate champion of human rights, inclusion, and transformation. As an African woman living with a disability, I have personal experience of exclusion as well as marginalisation. This lived experience has further ignited my desire to serve, and make the world a better place for all who live in it.
I completed my undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Political Science, Public Development Management, and History from Stellenbosch University. I was recently designated a Public Servant Fellow by the Apolitical Academy Southern Africa./ Future Elect. I also hold a diploma in Digital Marketing. I am an accredited Assessor and Moderator through the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
As a developing leader I had the honour of serving as the Junior Mayor of the King Sabatha Dalindyebo (KSD) municipality, leading youth development programs at the tender age of fifteen. I was later nominated to be one of the exchange student leaders to North Carolina, Washington DC, and New York in my second year at university. In my third year I was elected the second African woman to serve in the Student Representative Council in Stellenbosch University.
I founded the Notukela Foundation Institute (NFI) in 2019 to inspire and empower the women, youth, and people living with disabilities.
